Change or re-key your door locks

Moving into a new place comes with a long to-do list, but one task deserves to be near the top: changing the locks. It is a simple step that immediately gives you more control over your new home and a lot more peace of mind.

When you move in, you usually do not know how many copies of the old keys are floating around. Previous owners, former tenants, contractors, dog walkers, neighbors, or family members may still have access. Even if everyone had good intentions, relying on unknown key history is not a great way to start fresh.

Changing or re-keying the locks solves that problem quickly. It lets you know exactly who has access, helps you feel safer from day one, and gives you a clean starting point in the new space. If you want to go a step further, it is also a good time to consider a smart lock or keypad entry for easier access management.

There are plenty of moving tasks that can wait a day or two. This one should not. A new home feels better when it is secure, and changing the locks is one of the easiest ways to make that happen.
